Aggressive trees

Now that the leaves have fallen we need to get our trees trimmed and headed back lest branches start falling on the house or on other trees. This hasn't been done for several years. The arborist that we liked (Motto: Stop topping trees! Helping trees and their people get along.) died suddenly a couple of years ago. It was a bit of a shock.

But time marches on and Oregon trees keep growing. His company was passed along to another arborist, so we have an appointment next week for the new guy to come and discuss what needs to be done. This can surprisingly fraught with marital tension. Sometimes Greg and I have different notions about what needs to come off and what needs to stay. So it's best if both of us are in on the conversation. One time the tree guy was busy and didn't get out until several weeks after our conversation and we weren't home. He forgot Greg's instructions and did something completely spontaneous. There was this one maple tree that Greg had said not to touch, and he came home to find it much diminished. Not a good outcome.

So this time I took pictures hoping to make it easier all around. For example, what looks like a third tree in the middle in the picture, is actually a huge SUCKER from the tree on the left which found some empty space and light and decided to go for it. Actually, we are considering having the tree on the left taken out entirely and replacing it with a tree that would be, well, shorter. Maybe a dogwood or something.

Nina, Theo gave me a book for my birthday called "The $64 Tomato," by William Alexander. I think you'd like it!

Who knew trees could be such a problem...at least the roots aren't growing under the house or that could be really bad...
